Gold Coast Plastic Surgery is another name that will be familiar to those of you in the Chicago Plastic Surgery community. Although at first glance it may appear to be a practice run only by Dr. Moynihan, there are in fact other doctors there and it is a fairly large plastic surgery practice. Like many other Chicago Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Moynihan and Gold Coast Plastic Surgery specialize in facial plastic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery.
Among the plastic surgery types he offers are rhinoplasty (nasal surgery), facelifts, forehead lifts, eyelid lifts, chin implants, ear surgery (otoplasty), lip augmentation, laser procedures, wrinkle treatments and hair replacements. What’s nice is that some of these, such as hair replacements and ear surgery are fairly uncommon, so Gold Coast Plastic Surgery sets itself apart by offering such a wide array of procedures to its patients.
Hair replacement surgery is ideal for older male and female patients who have experienced hair loss and have not had success with traditional recovery methods. Recovery time is usually around a week. Since it only involves hair, there is typically little pain associated with the procedure, which is an added bonus for those who have suffered hair loss and not had much success in reversing it.
Ear Surgery, or otoplasty, is another unique plastic surgery treatment that we have not seen offered by many other Chicago Plastic Surgeons. Ear surgery is often performed on those with asymmetrical ears or protruding ears, and often on children around 4 or 5 years old. That said, it can also be performed on others, including those older who still have asymmetrical ears.

Continuing in our series of reviewing many of the doctors and practices involved in the Chicago Plastic Surgery scene, today we look at Northwestern Plastic Surgery and its plastic surgery specializations as well as the quality of the Chicago Plastic Surgeons practicing there. Unlike some of the other plastic surgeons we have looked at, Northwestern Plastic Surgery is a large organization with six doctors. For a specialty like plastic surgery, this is actually a relatively large number, especially in the Chicago area.
Furthermore, Northwestern Plastic Surgery has an academic affiliation - Northwestern University’s outstanding medical school. As with many groups, Northwestern Plastic Surgery also has a specialization: facial plastic surgery and breast augmentation. Northwestern Plastic Surgery further sets itself apart from the competition via its world-class lab that investigates wound healing, scar prevention and treatment following plastic surgery.
Within facial plastic surgery, Northwestern Plastic Surgery offers several options, including chin surgery (mentoplasty) with either chin implants or chin reductions, as well as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), face and neck lifts and fat grafting. Having such a wide array of specific facial plastic surgery options shows just how serious Northwestern is about their practice and patients, and really sets them apart from more generic Chicago Plastic Surgeons that just offer the usual “facial plastic surgery” or facials.
